Week 2: Application of Lean Tools (Including Low Volume/High Mix) lc2

Last 4 days of training provides an in-depth understanding of Lean tools and techniques as well as describes the activities necessary to engage the entire company in continuous improvement through Kaizen events.

  • In-classroom and factory environment demonstrations of proficiency
  • Hands-on learning with a goal of making Lean experts
  • The transfer of knowledge ties together the building blocks

MMTC designed Lean Manufacturing Champion training to promote sustainable continuous improvement efforts and support a long-term strategic deployment of lean manufacturing practices. The training is delivered by multiple instructors with in-between session assignments. Participants must attend all sessions and demonstrate proficiency in the subject matter in order to achieve a certificate.

Preparing the Lean Manufacturing Champion

  • Methods are introduced to participants for how to managecultural change
  • Emphasis is placed on promoting positive and caring  attitudes for all employees who will want to improve the workplace
  • Attendees experience the power of teamwork through presentations  and  interactive  exercises

Participants use two approaches for “learning to see”  the waste:

  1. Value Stream Mapping of Current and Future state processes
  2. Process Mapping that creates a Swim Lane Analysis Matrix  of manufacturing processes

Participants then learn how to redesign manufacturing processes to minimize costs and eliminate wastes.

Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques

  • 5S / Visual Workplace
  • Standardized Work Methods
  • Quick Changeover / Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED)
  • Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
