Food Safety, Quality and Efficiency Solutions

Across the United States, the food handling industry is taking a fresh look at its food safety management systems in order to deliver higher quality products, achieve higher levels of plant efficiency, and comply with increasingly complex regulatory standards and audits.
Across Michigan, they’re turning to Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center (MMTC) for help in all three areas. MMTC provides the tools and expertise to find the right balance of
[safety, quality, and efficiency]. Our team understands complex food quality regulations and can help develop, achieve, and maintain standards that meet the needs of your business and your customers. From feedstock to supply chain to environmental management solutions and more, our goals are always the same: drive down costs, increase output, and improve product quality.
Safe Quality Food (SQF)
The SQF program provides independent certification that a supplier’s food safety and quality management system complies with international and domestic food safety regulations. This certification assures food has been produced, processed, prepared, and handled according to the highest possible standards, at all levels of the supply chain. Designed as a food safety program, SQF also covers product quality, a feature that is unique to this certification.
SQF Benefits:
- Accepted and endorsed by many major retailers
- Recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI)
- Incorporates a certified Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points food safety plan
- Offers three levels of certification
- Food Safety Fundamentals
- Certified HACCP Food Safety Plan
- Comprehensive Quality Management Systems Developer
Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
HACCP is a food safety management system that relies on process controls to minimize food-safety risks in the food-processing industry. It provides a structure for assessing risks and putting controls in place to minimize those risks - relying on extensive verification and documentation to ensure that food safety has not been compromised at any step of an operation.
HACCP Benefits:
- Provides basic industry-accepted food quality and safety standards
- Complements other quality systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 22000, and SQF
- Enables your facility to meet or exceed governmental standards for production
Food Related Efficiencies
MMTC helps companies maximize operational efficiencies in cultivation, handling, processing, packaging, warehousing and distribution of food and food products. We also provide support in process standardization and in compliance to the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). The Act seeks to provide a safer food supply and a more stable food industry, including by broadening the power of the Food and Drug Administration to regulate every aspect of food production.
MMTC supports the FSMA, HACCP and SQF by working with companies to develop and implement the following tools:
- 5S / Visual Workplace
- Standardized Work Methods
- Quick Changeover
- Total Productive Maintenance
- Pull Systems
- Error Proofing
- Cellular Manufacturing and Plant Layout
- Supply Chain Management
